Description
Only after you manage to get a parking space in Banff in the summer can you step out and enjoy the scenery! Banff (Alberta, Canada) sits on the Bow River, nestled under the beautiful Canadian Rocky Mountains. The river's source is the Bow Glacier, thus the beautiful turquoise color from the glacial silt. Many opportunities for recreation exist, including canoeing. Just out of the photo to the right was where many people were coming and going with their canoes. Banff National Park was created in 1887 and was Canada's first national park. The designation of Banff as a national park marked a turning point in the public's perception of the Bow River. The river was now viewed as something that not only had had an industrial and agricultural quality but an aesthetic value as well. Thousands today are thankful for the foresight in the preservation of this beautiful enclave nearly 130 years ago. The Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks of Banff, Jasper, Kootenay and Yoho along with three provincial parks comprise a UNESCO World Heritage site.
