Hiking and beautiful scenery are what the Cinque Terre region of Liguria Italy is known for. I think everyone starts out their hikes very enthusiastically and full of energy. Even one of the first steep climbs along the trail is more an occasion for picture taking (look mom! This is REALLY steep!) than it is for groaning. So it was with me! However, on this morning I had started early to hike from Vernazza to Monterosso so the temperature was still cool and the trail deserted. There are many areas along the way where you can stop and enjoy the spectacular views out to sea. The coastline, the five villages of the Cinque Terre, and the surrounding hillsides are all part of the Cinque Terre National Park and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
