Description
This is the view of the Hotel National des Invalides, the facade facing the Seine river. Before I reached here, it was sunny, then it was raining steadily so I was ready to call it quits for the day. But the rain stopped long enough for me to enjoy this scene and then the esplanade in front of it leading to the Pont Alexandre III. This front facade facing the Seine river is 196 meters long (643 ft). It was founded in 1671 by Louis XIV, the Sun King. He wanted to provide accommodation for disabled and impoverished war veterans. Today the complex still retains its original function as a hospital and hospice for badly injured and disabled war veterans as well as the Musee de l'Armee and the Eglise du Dome, which houses the tomb of Napoleon.
