Description
It's not exactly Caillebotte's famous Paris Street Rainy Day painting, but that's what this view brought to mind! I was gazing out of one of the windows of the Louvre Museum in Paris, marveling at the incredibly long lines of people waiting to get in the entrance through the pyramid in the Napoleon courtyard. The indoor underground entrance was even more crowded. Different from the painting where there are no raindrops to be seen, it was pouring rain on this day. The pyramids were designed by famed architect I.M. Pei and completed in 1989. The large pyramid serves as the main entrance for the Louvre. It has an underground lobby beneath created because of a series of problems with the Louvre's original main entrance. Visitors now enter through the pyramid, descend into the spacious main lobby, and then re-ascend into the main Louvre buildings on three sides. The Richelieu wing is seen on the right. There are three smaller pyramids in the Louvre courtyard, two seen here, although they aren't as famous as their big brother.
