Description
The drive from Te Anau to see the famed Milford Sound in Fiordland National Park on the South Island of New Zealand is packed with fabulous scenery. Some websites say the drive takes two hours but we took about 6 hrs and even then we felt we had missed so much. One of the sites on the way Marian Cascade or Lake Marian Falls. They are a collection of cascading rapids as opposed to a textbook waterfall descending from cliff top. They can be reached after a short walk from a parking area and it is well worth the stop. Getting there is half the fun, via an easy and stunning nature walk through silver beech forest complete with its very own swing-bridge. The reward at the end are these lovely cascading falls. There is a hike continuing further to Lake Marian, the source waters for the cascade, but this is the fantastic condensed version.
