Unless you sleep in a boat in the harbor in the Cinque Terre town of Riomaggiore, Italy, everything is UP. I walked UP a winding road from the train station to my B&B where my host cheerfully told me that if I wanted a quicker way into town, I could take some stairs. OK, I'll try that, always up for a new way. There were actually a couple of ways to walk down but I always had to face the walk back UP! This was one of the picturesque ways, along an alley of colorful buildings called Via Pecunia. Cinque Terre is a string of five centuries-old seaside villages on the rugged Italian Riviera coastline in the Liguria region of Italy. In each of the five towns of the region, colorful houses tumble down rocky cliffs, ancient vineyards cling to steep terraces and fishing boats bob in harbors. The five towns are a hikers tourism resort paradise. The coastline, the five villages, and the surrounding hillsides are all part of the Cinque Terre National Park and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
