Description
The Church of St John the Baptist (Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista) is located in one of the highest spots in the Cinque Terre town of Riomaggiore. Although I walked past it nearly a dozen times, it was only open one time so I slipped in for some photos. The church was built in 1341. Riomaggiore is the southernmost of the villages of Cinque Terre, in Italy. Cinque Terre is a string of five centuries-old seaside villages on the rugged Italian Riviera coastline in the Liguria region of Italy. In each of the five towns of the region, colorful houses and ancient vineyards cling to steep terraces and fishing boats bob in harbors. The coastline, the five villages, and the surrounding hillsides are all part of the Cinque Terre National Park and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
