Description

It's hard to get tired of the blue water of the Ligurian Sea and the blue sky in the Cinque Terre region of Italy. Here is a view looking northwestward from Manarola. The railway station for the town of Corniglia is seen in the bay while the town of Corniglia itself is located up on the rocky cliff to its left. Corniglia is the only one of the Cinque Terre towns not located directly on the water. The next town (Vernazza) is not visible behind the headland but the most northwesterly of the towns, Monterosso al Mare, can be seen in the distance. The towns are only minutes away from one another by train, but seem worlds apart in character and mood! The Cinque Terre is a rugged portion of coast on the Italian Riviera. It is in the Liguria region of Italy, to the west of the city of La Spezia. The coastline, the five villages, and the surrounding hillsides are all part of the Cinque Terre National Park and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
