Description
It''s not a name that rolls off the tongue easily: Sunwapta. But that doesn't detract from your appreciation of the beauty and wildness and ferocity of Sunwapta Falls, located in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada. This view is slightly downstream of the upper falls showing the bridge from which you can view the upper falls as well as the turbulent waters funneled powerfully through the narrow rocky gorge. The upper falls have a drop of about 18.5 m. Sunwapta is a Stoney (Assiniboine) word that means turbulent water. It is most spectacular in the late spring when the spring melt from the Athabasca Glacier is at its peak.
