Of the many viewpoints of Vernazza in the Cinque Terre region of Italy, this one along the trail from Vernazza to Corniglia best shows the colorful houses tumbling down the hillsides and crammed closely together! You can barely see the 'main street' from this vantage point, and mostly if you already know where it is! A bit of the train station platform is seen at the lower right, and the train connects all the towns of the Cinque Terre just minutes away from one another. Some writers say that Vernazza is the most picturesque of the Cinque Terre towns. It is certainly one of the busiest and most popular with tourists. Vernazza has the only natural harbor in the Cinque Terre, nestled under the shadows of an ancient castle on the left. Cinque Terre is a string of five centuries-old seaside villages on the rugged Italian Riviera coastline in the Liguria region of Italy. In each of the five towns of the region, colorful houses and ancient vineyards cling to steep terraces and fishing boats bob in harbors. The five towns are a hikers tourism resort paradise. The coastline, the five villages, and the surrounding hillsides are all part of the Cinque Terre National Park and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
