Everybody poses for a photo before the famous east doors of Baptistery (the “Gates of Paradise”) in Florence Italy even though they are the reproductions. The real Gates of Paradise reside in a hermetically sealed glass enclosure in the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo. Here, the quiet of the museum seems to invite people to study the doors rather than pose in front of them. The museum and the ‘real’ doors do not have the large crowds that are outside on the piazza around the Baptistery viewing the reproductions so it is easier to view the doors in this atmosphere. It was fun to sit on the bench across from the doors and watch the time-lapse image of people coming and going, stopping for short or long times, intently studying the doors or just having a casual look.
