Description
What things went on behind this blue door?! One can only imagine. This is a part of the Blue Wing Inn in Sonoma, CA. Erected by General M. G. Vallejo about 1840 to accommodate emigrants and other travelers, the Inn was purchased in gold rush days by Cooper and Spriggs, two retired sea-faring men, and operated as a hotel and store. It was one of the first hostelrie in Northern California hosting such notables as John C Fremont, U.S. Grant, Kit Carson, and "Fighting Joe" Hooker. Today it is the oldest adobe structure visible to the public north of the San Francisco Bay.
