Description
My first view of Toledo Spain was definitely a breath of fresh air. Nine or so hours on the plane not counting time in the airports...very jet lagged...an hour across Madrid via Metro to get to the train station...wait around for the train...try to stay awake...thankfully only an hour more on the high speed train to Toledo. From the train station, you can take a bus or taxi to the old town center....but then you miss all the good stuff! It was a winter morning, still early despite all the travel, and the wonderful light infused my bloodstream with energy to stay awake for a few more hours! And it quickened my step in anticipation of all the great stuff that was just around the next corner! This is the Puente de Alcantara, built by the Romans over the Rio Tajo or Tagus River. The historic town center, a UNESCO World Heritage site, rises above it on the right.
