Description
Where there are people in Amsterdam, there are bikes! Bikes are used for everything and are rigged to do all the tasks of daily life. One of these is definitely ready to carry some light cargo. This pair was seen in Vondelpark, the playground of Amsterdam where approximately 10 million people visit annually. We stayed in a fabulous B&B that was quite near Vondelpark and many days we would just walk through the park to the sites and museums of Amsterdam rather than ride the trams The Vondelpark is a public urban park of 120 acres. In 1864 a group of citizens established the Association for the Construction of a Park for Riding and Strolling but its expense eventually became too much for a private group. In 1953 the association donated the park to the city of Amsterdam. Interesting factoid from Wikipedia: "Starting in September 2008, adults were planned to be legally allowed to have sex in the park, as long as they "take their garbage with them afterwards and never have intercourse near the playground. The sex must be limited to the evening hours and night.", in the words of current Amsterdam Alderman Paul Van Grieken. However, Amsterdam Police announced that they would not in fact tolerate this as the law required them to prevent it."

Nice picture and great facts, Joan. In the sixties and seventies the Vondelpark was the place to be and to kiss, love and smoke...

great shot. I visited this city once, and you captured one of the iconic elements of this city.
