Description
Perhaps fittingly, one of two days of rain we had in a month-long trip in New Zealand happened when visiting the Akaroa Head Scenic Head. The landscape is wild and sparse. In the rain, it is moody. Glancing out to sea, you can imagine nature at its most unforgiving. Truly an awe-inspiring sight! Looking inland, you get a sense of the scale of the land by noting what looks like two tiny waterfalls at the head of the bay!. The Akaroa Scenic Reserve is on Banks Peninsula, southeast of Christchurch on the South Island of New Zealand. A lighthouse used to be located on this point of land but was relocated to the town of Akaroa in 1980 after being replaced in 1977 by an automated light.
