Description
A vivid memory of this night at the Mirador del Valle overlooking the Tagus River and the city of Toledo Spain on the opposite bank was how COLD it was! Everyone with a camera seemed to be here waiting for sunset. We were all shivering, hopping up and down trying to keep warm, and constantly looking at our watches wishing for the minutes to tick by faster! At last came the reward of the lights coming on and getting brighter as the night got darker. In this view, the Alacazar is seen on the top, sitting at the city's highest point. The Alcazar is a stone fortification once used as a Roman palace in the 3rd century, and restored under Charles I (Holy Roman Emperor Charles V) and his son Philip II of Spain in the 1540s. It had a dark history during the days of Franco but today stands as one of the most recognizable icons of Todedo. Toledo is the capital of the province of Toledo and the autonomous community of Castile-La Mancha. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986 for its extensive cultural and monumental heritage and historical co-existence of Christian, Muslim and Jewish cultures.
