Description
While there are hordes of tourists visiting Finca Vigia, Hemingway’s house in Cuba, you can occasionally find a bit of space that reminds you why Hemingway might have liked and bought the property! Finca Vigia is located approximately 9 miles from Havana, in a small suburb named San Francisco de Paula. Situated on a hilltop, it was first purchased by Ernest Hemingway in 1940 for about $12,500. The name Finca Vigia, means "lookout house" and from a tower on the property you can see Havana. Finca Vigía has made both the World Monuments Fund list of 100 Most Endangered sites, and The National Trust for Historic Preservation’s 11 Most Endangered Places (despite being located outside the US).
