Description
The view of Avila Spain from Los Cuatro Postes viewpoint is beautiful. Zoom in with your camera lens or take in a panoramic shot, it's enticing either way! The historic city is surrounded completely by the ancient walls. The walls were started in 1090 but most appear to have been rebuilt in the 12th century. The view is particularly beautiful in the late day as the setting sun warms the stone walls. And even later, it is magical to see how the town lights up with the walls in the foreground and the Avila sky changing from blue to black. Stay for awhile and catch it all. I stayed for about 90 minutes enjoying the transition into darkness and contemplating what this walled fortress would look like to medieval invaders. Back in 1200 I bet it looked pretty intimidating! In 1985, the ancient city of Avila and its extramural churches were declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO.
