Description
This little calf seems a little camera shy, not sure what to make of the parade of cars slowly creeping by. But the adults are unfazed, focused more on eating. This herd was in Custer State Park, South Dakota, USA. And…it’s a bison, not a buffalo….so I learned. The population of bison in the US today is around 31,000, up from the nearly decimated population of 541 animals in 1889 but well down from the 60 million in the late 18th century. Even with the recovered numbers, it’s still a thrill for most people to see the bison up close!
