Description
A bright hot summer afternoon in Johnson City TX! Like many other county seats in Texas, there is a town square featuring the county courthouse. The present Blanco County, or Johnson City, Courthouse is the last of three for Blanco County. Two previous courthouses were in Blanco. This 1916 courthouse was the first permanent courthouse build after the seat of government moved from Blanco to Johnson City in 1980. It was designed by San Antonio architect Henry T Phelps. The classical revival limestone structure features doric columns and a domed cupola. Blanco County is located in the Hill Country of central Texas, west of Austin and north of San Antonio. Two significant rivers, the Blanco and the Pedernales, flow through the county. The area is famed as being the home of Lyndon Baines Johnson, whose ranch is located about 15 miles west of Johnson City.
