Description
While hiking on our last day on Stewart Island New Zealand, I came upon a small trail leading to the low tide beach near these scenic boathouses. Arguably one of the most scenic things on Stewart Island, New Zealand are the boathouses! They come in all sizes and colors and state of repair/disrepair. They sit on stilts or pilings and many have rails leading to the sea for launching the boats at any stage of the tide. They sit among the trees and bushes in the most scenic ways, as if they were built in place just for a photographer. At low tide it was great photographic fun! ! Stewart Island/Rakiura is the third-largest island of New Zealand. It lies 30 kilometres (19 mi) south of the South Island, across the Foveaux Strait. Its permanent population is 381 people as of the 2013 census, most of whom live in the settlement of Oban (aka Halfmoon Bay). Most of the island is set aside as the Rakiura National Park, New Zealand's newest national park. Stewart Island is large, 64 km long, and 40 km across (at its widest point). It has a 700 km coastline, but there is only 20 km of roads!
