Description
This is a monochrome version of the image entitled Boots on the Ground. The boots are a sculpture that is tribute to firefighters at Fort Worth (Texas) Fire Station 8. This sculpture is entitled United We Stand and was designed by Eric McGehearty. It is constructed in bronze and dedicated in 2006. In total, the sculpture has 12 pair of the of the three-quarter boots, signifying the firefighter's preparedness and camaraderie. The boots depicted are called three quarter boots or hip boots because they unfold to cover the upper part of the leg. In a web search, it seems like there are some fire stations who still have a few pair of these around, although they are being phased out. In some stations they sit in a glass trophy case with other antiques.
