Description
You can feel it's hot already and only 9:30 in the morning. This is the Carrera del Darro, the road beside the Darro River in Granada, Spain, that lies below the Alhambra. A couple hundred yards or so farther along you get a great view of the Alhambra sitting high above you. According to some tourist sites, this is the 'one of the most scenic walks in Granada'. That may be true early in the day but as the day goes on, this road is crowded with tourists! It is also barely a one lane road that can get quite busy with cars and buses. If you ride the bus in the more crowded times of the day, you see many people lining the wall, both sitting and standing, while the bus goes by. If you are lucky you find a place where the road widens, like at the bus stop in the center of the photo, to wait as vehicles pass. The street dates from the 17th century and is at the edge of the Albayzin neighborhood so you can veer off the main street to enjoy the ambience. The surviving Moorish baths are along this street as well, well worth the (free) visit!
