As you venture along Castle Trail in Badlands National Park (South Dakota USA) you become surrounded with tall spires, small buttes, and narrow ravines. You can tell it’s hot just by looking at it, so be sure to have some water. Badlands National Park is a pristine wilderness caused by its foreboding and inhospitable terrain. Even the Lakota Sioux called it ‘mako sica’ or ‘land bad’. French explorers called it ‘bad lands to travel through’! Nowadays, we can retreat to air-conditioned vehicles after enjoying a few miles of hiking in the sun and nature!
