Description
After a day of hiking above Tremezzo and along Lake Como Italy to Lenno, I took the ferry back to Varenna and was treated to the waterfront views along the way. This is the parochial church of San Lorenzo (St Lawrence) in Tremezzo. The Church of Saint Lorenzo was begun in 1775-1776, but the construction stopped after only two years due to lack of funds and wasn’t resumed for another 100 years. Thus it has a more ‘modern’ look compared with other historic churches around Italy. Wikipedia states that St Lawrence is one of the most widely venerated saints of the Catholic Church. Based on the number of churches I visited named after him, I am not surprised.
