Artist's Description
One of the most picturesque parts of the trek from Corniglia to Manarola in the Cinque Terre region of Italy takes you through the local vineyards. Here the young grape vines are seen in the foreground while the beautiful Ligurian Sea (what the Mediterranean is called in this little corner) lies bright blue beyond. This part of the walk also gives a great view of the Cinque Terre coastline. The northernmost Cinque Terre town of Monterosso sits in the distant curve of land. Many hikers pass this way in odd counterpoint to the day to day workings of the vineyard. One wonders what the farmers think of the merry-making hikers as they toil on the hillside. In order to preserve the relationship of man and the environment, the Cinque Terre National Park has been established. The National Park works to promote sustainable tourism that is now vital to the economic success of Cinque Terre.
