Description
A great new city park in Dallas TX is the recently opened (6/15/14) Continental Bridge. Where cars once ruled, people rule now! The bridge was originally built in 1933, but became a secondary route when the grander, better-connected Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge (seen here on the right) opened to the south in March 2012. But for years, it was a primary link between Dallas east and west. The bridge, which connects downtown to West Dallas, closed a year ago for the transformation. The project was funded by city bond money and an $8 million donation from the Trinity Trust. Replacing the cars on the Continental Bridge? A playground with colorful, geometric climbing blocks on a safe, soft surface. Lounge chairs. Spans of tall, white cloth act as shade structures to block the sun. Other spans of rope mesh will shade visitors when vines grow and curl over them. There's a meditation labyrinth, bocce court and a spray fountain. Thanks to a combination of a generous donation in honor of Mary McDermott Cook and City funds, this newest amenity will offer an activity space near the Trinity River unlike any other in Dallas. Aside from the amenities, the bridge provide a great view of downtown Dallas, the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, and the Trinity River.
