Description
The Cinque Terre region of Italy is a hikers' paradise! Particularly along the coastal trails, every step is another beautiful view. It's not hard to see why so many hikers flock to the area. This view is on the hike from Vernazza heading south to the next town of Corniglia. There are some very steep parts to the trail going in that direction and when you first see Corniglia, you heave a sigh of relief, thinking you are almost there. But you aren't! What keeps you going is the thought of the gelato awaiting you in Corniglia. Corniglia is the only one of the Cinque Terre villages that is not on the coast but instead is perched on this headland above the water. On the next headland is the town of Manarola. If you zoom in, you can see the ferry going in for a landing at Manarola, and look even closer off in the haze you see the ferry going in for a landing at Riomaggiore (which isn't quite visible from this vantage point). Above the towns, you see the vineyards that the region if famous for. Cinque Terre is a string of five centuries-old seaside villages on the rugged Italian Riviera coastline in the Liguria region of Italy. In each of the five towns of the region, colorful houses and ancient vineyards cling to steep terraces and fishing boats bob in harbors. The coastline, the five villages, and the surrounding hillsides are all part of the Cinque Terre National Park and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
