Description
Off to the side of the throne room in the Alcazar in Seville Spain is a quiet and peaceful room knows as the Courtyard of the Dolls (Patio de las Munecas), which served as a focus of private life for the king. Originally there was a pool in the center to cool the residents and reflect the decorative patterns. Today, a single plant sits in the middle, accentuating the symmetry of the architecture, and providing a grounding counterpoint to the rising arches. The columns of alternating white, black, and pink marble were recycled from ancient Roman and Visigothic buildings. The original design was only one story but upper floors were added centuries later. The name of the courtyard comes from the tiny doll faces found at the base of one of the arches, so they say....I looked and didn't find them! I did finally see them when I got home and looked up some pictures of the room, but it isn't quite the same!

Beautiful image. Thank you for sharing it in the CFC group discussion so that it might be part of my ‘art walk’ that lifts my spirit every week.
