Description
Many of Texas' towns have outstanding central squares with historic county courthouses and Denton TX (30 min north or either Dallas or Fort Worth) is no exception. It's a nice drive on a Saturday morning and as a reward there are wonderful coffee shops on the square to relax in. This courthouse is officially called Denton County Courthouse on the Square, and was constructed in 1896.In addition to county offices, the "Courthouse-on-the-Square Museum" also calls it home. The courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Also on the grounds in the burial place of John B. Denton, the county's and city's namesake. On unique feature of this Romanesque courthouse is the central octagonal tower and four adjacent domes.
