Description
To me, this cowboy looks a little desperate and needs a Dr Pepper fix! A mural in Dublin Texas touts the old Dr Pepper slogan "Drink a Bite to Eat". It seems bazarre in today's nutritional world ! The significance of the numerals 10, 2 and 4 on the mural is explained on the website of the oldest bottler of Dr. Pepper (in Dublin, Texas) as follows: It was in the 1920s that Dr. Walter Eddy at Columbia University studied the bodys metabolism. He discovered that a natural drop in energy occurs about 10:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. But he also discovered that if the people in his research study had something to eat or drink at 10, 2 and 4, the energy slump could be avoided. After Dr. Eddys research findings were released, Dr Pepper challenged its advertising agency to come up with a theme which would suggest that Dr Pepper should be that 10, 2 and 4 drink which would keep the energy level up. The result was one of the most enduring of Dr Peppers advertising themes: Drink a bite to eat at 10, 2 and 4. The Dr. Pepper Company pushed the notion that ingestion of sugar at 10, 2 and 4 was actually something healthful. And, of course, parents would want their children to engage in healthful practices. The Dr Pepper that was bottled in Dublin TX became known as Dublin Dr Pepper. Dublin Dr Pepper followed the original recipe, using cane sugar as the sweetener as opposed to newer high-fructose corn syrup in the 1980s. The Dublin plant formula's use of sugar made it popular among soda fans. The Dublin Dr Pepper Bottling was the oldest remaining Dr Pepper bottler until 2012, producing the beverage continuously since 1891.Dr Pepper was created in the 1880s by Charles Alderton in Waco, Texas and first served around 1885. Dr Pepper was first nationally marketed in the United States in 1904,
