Description
What to us appears to be a beautiful old door in Cordoba Spain probably had practical reasons for every feature. The metal sheeting…was it for protection from the elements, protection from battering rams or axes, or a demonstration of wealth. The studs likely secured the metal sheeting to an underlying wooden door. At first I thought to myself “How hard can it be to pick that lock?” but as I read further I found the statement about picking a lock in medieval times “…In order to do that (realistically) you need at least access to basic metal working tools, and it wasn’t as simple as walking to the hardware shop and picking up a file…”. I had to laugh at my 21st century view that such tools were readily available in every home! In any case, in the 21st century, it IS a beautiful old door!
