Dot’s Mini Museum in Vega TX is probably a great little place to stop if you are passing through in the summer but it is a little sad and forlorn (not to mention closed) on a rainy November day. Dot’s Mini Museum houses a collection dedicated to the Mother Road, some cowboy memorabilia, and Dot’s Avon perfume bottle collection. Back in the heyday of Route 66, Dot and Harold Levitt had a store called Vega Zero Lockers where locals could store frozen foods in units called lockers and tourists could stock up on fresh fruits, veggies, lunch meats and canned goods for their trek. The business faded away after the interstate came through but Dot reimagined the business as a museum to remember all things Route 66. Her daughter runs the museum today.
