As you approach Double Arch in Arches National Park (Moab, Utah), it’s hard appreciate the scale of the formations until you see how tiny the person on the trail and the people under the arch are in comparison! Double Arch is a famous close-set pair of natural arches joined at a common pillar at a 90-degree angle. The front one in the photo is a monumental 112-foot tall, 144-foot wide span, which is the tallest in the park and the third widest. The one visible in the rear is smaller, only 67-foot wide and 86-foot tall. Arches National park has over 2,000 natural stone arches, in addition to hundreds of soaring pinnacles, massive fins and giant balanced rocks. It is a red-rock wonderland for sure! The area was used as a backdrop for the opening scene of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in which the arches are briefly visible.
