Description

The light station at Dyrholaey on the south coast of Iceland was first established in 1910 although the present lighthouse dates only from 1927. It marks the southernmost point on the mainland of Iceland, sitting on a high headland jutting out into the ocean. The light is still one of the guiding lights on the South coast and is controlled from Reykjavík. Although it is an active lighthouse, today it hosts not a lightkeeper but a luxury little bed and breakfast where each room is supplied with ear plugs to help drown out the sounds of the light turning during the night.
