Description
This early morning scene in Havana Cuba summed up many aspects of urban Cuban life as I experienced it. It seemed to me that Cubans were forced to be entrepreneurial in order to survive and thrive and devised many strategies for this. Early in the day, many individuals brew up some espresso, put it in a thermos and then sell shots to passersby for 1 CUC (Cuban Convertible Peso). I always kept some change in my pocket when I went out early in the hopes of running across one (or more…) of these enterprising folks. Also seen here is a younger man making repairs to his pedicab. The pedicabs are ubiquitous in Havana, serving an important niche in the transportation web. Once the city awakens, these pedicabs likely don’t stop until the city sleeps again.
