Description
The Paseo del Prado in Havana Cuba is a different place in the early morning hours. Other times of the day it moves to different rhythms, with pedestrians, skateboarders, hustlers, prostitutes, artists, and vehicle traffic all vying for attention and a place in the world. But just before dawn, it is very quiet. The Paseo del Prado was the first paved street in Havana and in the early part of the 20th century there were many important buildings lining the street. But by the 1950s rich families were moving from the Prado to other areas of the city and buildings began to deteriorate. After the revolution, the street and many of its buildings continued to deteriorate physically. Still they cling to life. It remains to be seen what the 21st century will bring to this iconic street.
