Description
The calm water of Endeavour Inlet at Furneaux Lodge was the welcome last stop on our 15 km hike over the renowned Queen Charlotte Track on the South Island of New Zealand. We were happy to have made it in time to catch the last boat back to Picton since there are no roads leading to/from Furneaux Lodge! This was a wonderful day walk, starting with a scenic boat ride through the Queen Charlotte Sounds, continuing with the walk starting at historic Ship Cove and finally arriving at the Lodge several hours later. Built in the early 1900's and surrounded by 2000 acres of New Zealand native forest, Furneaux Lodge is set on 3 acres of some of the most picturesque scenery in the Marlborough Sounds which has been unchanged since Captain Cook's first visit to the inlet in 1769.
