Description
Barely 50 steps from the entrance of our B&B in Budapest Hungary was this view! It was hard not to become infatuated with the Hungarian Parliament as we saw it several times each day as we came and went to the B&B, or as we came and went on the metro or the tram, also located here. It was easy to slip out one evening for a photo session of the east side of the building after the lights came on. On the east side of the Hungarian Parliament building is the equestrian statue of Francis II Rakoczi, a Hungarian nobleman and leader of the Hungarian uprising against the Habsburgs in 1703-11. He was also Prince of Transylvania, an Imperial Prince, and a member of the Order of the Golden Fleece. Today he is considered a national hero in Hungary. Here he sits on horseback looking toward the great Parliament. From this view, the Danube River is behind the building.
