Description
Lava lizards are some of the most abundant reptiles throughout Galapagos. They look similar to miniature iguanas and are often found warming up in the sun atop lava, which gives the group its common name. This one is the Española lava lizard or Hood lava lizard, endemic to the Galapagos island of Española. It is the largest lava lizard of the Galápagos Islands and the only one occurring on Española Island as well as on four of its surrounding islets.
