Description
This is a more artistic interpretation of my photo entitled Fisherman's Bastion Budapest. Get there early and you will be lucky enough to get your photos of Fisherman's Bastion on Castle Hill in Budapest Hungary before too many tour buses arrive! Fisherman's Bastion is a terrace built in neo-Gothic and neo-Romanesque style on the Castle hill around Matthias Church. While it may seem ancient, and while tourists may want it to be ancient, it was designed and built between 1895 and 1902. It has a Disney-esque feel to it but its main attraction is that it commands a panoramic view of the Danube, Margaret Island, and Pest to the east and the Gellrt Hill to the south. Its seven towers represent the seven Magyar tribes that settled in the Carpathian Basin in 896. The Bastion takes its name from the guild of fishermen that was responsible for defending this stretch of the city walls in the Middle Ages so in this regard it has historical roots. FUN FACT: It was featured as a Pit Stop on the sixth season of American TV show The Amazing Race.
