Description
Fiumelatte is one of the few rivers of the world that you can walk its entire length, and all before lunch. Located near Varenna on Lake Como, Italy, Fiumelatte owes its fame to being the shortest river in Italy, running only 250 m. If that weren’t enough to make it famous, it only runs seasonally, appearing suddenly in the second half of March with a raging flow and then drying up in the middle of October. The intermittent flow could imply that the river is the vent of an unexplored underground cavity in the mountains, which gets periodically filled. Da Vinci described the river as having ‘inestimable uproar and noise’, likely due to its average descent gradient of 36 degrees! For such a short river, it offers a lot of bang for the viewing buck, with great views at the source, half way down the mountain looking toward Lake Como as seen here, and also as it spills into Lake Como in the village of Fiumelatte.
This image is perfect for you if you love the Lake Como area in Italy and value a slightly ‘off the beaten path’ look at the local scene. The watercolor treatment provides a dreamlike look to the classic view. It is available in in many sizes and formats of wall art to fit individual needs and tastes.
