Description
The directions to the Forge Covered Bridge in Hardenburgh NY (Ulster County) were a bit sketchy, and the GPS signal was pretty weak. It was raining and getting dark. I tried to fool the GPS with a 'creative' destination point but I wasn't hopeful as I drove through the gathering gloom. Then the GPS said 'you have arrived at your destination', and I looked ahead about 100' and darn if the covered bridge wasn't sitting right there. I was so excited, not the least because with the rain and coming darkness I didn't have much time to find it! There were a few places to pull off the road but you have to be careful because the road is VERY narrow. Luckily there wasn't alot of traffic. There is little information on this bridge online. One thing I CAN tell you for sure is that the information that "this bridge is on private property" is spot on! The bridge and property around it are posted, and I was there less than 5 minutes before the ONE vehicle to pass me stopped to remind me of that fact! Maybe there was a security camera that I didn't see! The bridge was built in 1906 and has a single span of 27'. It really must the smallest covered bridge ever! It is constructed in a King Truss design meaning that it consists of two angled supports leaning into a common vertical support, all resting on a horizontal beam. National Register of Historic Places application is currently in the works. Very little other information seemed to be available online on this bridge which is a shame.

These covered bridges have always intrigued me! We don't have them in New Zealand :) Great capture :)
