Description
Cowboys and Culture....this is the culture part of Fort Worth, one of the two iconic 48 'angels on the front of the Bass Performance Hall in downtown Fort Worth, Texas. The 2,056-seat multipurpose Hall is characteristic of the classic European opera house form. An 80-foot diameter Great Dome tops the Founders Concert Theater. Since the Hall opened in May 1998, the angels have become preeminent cultural icons of the Dallas-Fort Worth community. The Hall itself is renowned for its superb acoustics, exceptional sight lines and ambience on level with the great halls of the world. In Travel and Leisure magazine, it was described as 'the newest star in the opera-house firmament'. Two giant, hand-carved trumpet-playing angels on the facade announce its welcome presence in the middle of downtown and, although surmounted by a dome that appears to float over trompe l'oeil clouds (built in) a mixture of Beaux-Arts and Vienna Secessionist styles.
