Description
I was looking to photograph some fountains one afternoon in Madrid Spain and I had three that had been recommended. I walked to the first and it was in the midst of a massive metro reconstruction site. Strike one. I walked to the second, arrived at the plaza where it was supposed to be and looked around, not seeing a fountain. Then I saw a structure that could only kindly be described as a ‘wee dribbler’. I don’t take any credit for the term but it worked in this case as there was barely any water dripping from the edges of the fountain. Strike two. Walking to the Fountain of Juan de Villanueva in the Parque del Oeste was a bit of a hike from where I was but I set off anyway hoping for better luck. About a block away, I spied the fountain and there was water! Eureka! But as I neared the fountain, the water stopped. YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS? I screamed to myself in my very best John McEnroe imitation! But then….miracle of miracles! It started running again! It seems that the fountain ran cyclically, on and off every few minutes. But making a photograph was not without its problems since the fountain is in the middle of a busy roundabout! Next time….repeating all this at night!
