Our guide in Iceland brought us to this beautiful river for some photos but he never did tell us the name of the place! Luckily I had taken a photo of a signpost nearby and between that, a good map of Iceland, some sleuthing on the internet, and the help of a couple of fellow travelers, we figured out that this is the Jokulsa a Bru river in East Iceland, aka Jokulsa a Dal or Jokla. This is a glacial river and at 150 km it is the longest river in eastern Iceland. Given more time, I believe we would have hopped that fence and walked along the cliffs like the other traveler you see way off in the distance.
