Description
From newspaper reports 11 July 1997: "The documents were all signed, the security operation wound down, but Bill Clinton had one piece of business to complete before leaving Spain after this week's Nato summit: to visit Granada to show Hillary and Chelsea "the most beautiful sunset in the world". As dusk fell, the US President stood with his wife and daughter to watch the last rays of the sun glow on the snowy peaks of the Sierra Nevada, turning the city violet and making the ancient Moorish Alhambra palace appear suspended in the air. He had first visited the city 29 years ago, during his time as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford, and had been so stunned by its beauty that he resolved one day to return. This week, his wish was fulfilled." I figured if it was good enough for the President of the USA, it was good enough for me! So I went on up to the Mirador de San Nicolas in the Albayzin district in Granada to watch the sunset. This photo was taken in the warm late afternoon glow but before the lights were lit. Still, the red glow of the Albambra is stunning. It IS the best view you will get of the Alhambra so it is no wonder hundreds of tourists and locals make the trek every night to watch the sun go down and the lights come on. The Alhambra is part of the UNESCO World Heritage site in Granada.
