Description
A short hike from the carpark brings you to the Station Rock lookout point on Great Barrier Island, New Zealand. Surely a great reward for a small hiking investment! The view is of Tryphena, the most populated area on Great Barrier Island. Situated at the southwestern end of the island and surrounded by hills and mountains, Tryphena has sheltered and sunny bays and beaches that make up the harbor. Great Barrier Island lies in the outer Hauraki Gulf of New Zealand, 100 kilometres (62 mi) north-east of central Auckland. It is the sixth-largest island of New Zealand and fourth-largest in the main chain. The majority of the island (around 60% of the total area) is administered as a nature reserve by the Department of Conservation.
