Description
I was wondering around Sierpe Costa Rica waiting for our group to finish up lunch and load into vans for a trip back to Puerto Jimenez when I spotted this green iguana crossing the road. He wasn’t hard to miss, being about 4’ in length! As I got closer taking photos, he moved across the road and into the trees where he is in this photo. I spotted a few more iguanas and continued wandering down the road in search of other wildlife. Green iguanas spend most of their lazy lives in trees, but are also good swimmers. The spines along their back and tails evoke memories of a long-gone dinosaur. Despite their very sharp teeth, they are herbivores, but young green iguanas usually also feed on insects. Thanks to sharp claws on their hind legs, iguanas are excellent climbers. The end of the story: not too long into my wandering around Sierpe, I figured I’d better get back to the group. It turns out they were about to leave! Each vanload thought I was in the other van so I was nearly left behind!
