Description
Visitors to Havana Cuba may not stay at the Hotel Nacional de Cuba, but may make a visit just to drink in the history! It was built in 1930, a time when Cuba was a prime travel destination for Americans. It was run by various American developers for several decades until the Cuban Revolution, after which it was nationalized by Fidel Castro. The Hotel Nacional de Cuba is considered a symbol of history, culture and Cuban identity. Since 1930 the hotel has attracted personalities from the arts, science, and politics, such as Winston Churchill, Frank Sinatra, Ava Gardner, Johnny Weismuller, Jimmy Carter, Mickey Mantle, Ernest Hemingway, Yuri Gararin, and Jesse Ventura! The guns that made up the old Santa Clara battery, which fired on the USS Montgomery during the Spanish-Cuban-American war in 1898 are located on the lawn in the foreground and are a World Heritage Site. Anti-aircraft guns were set up in the Santa Clara Battery during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. As for us, we were from the subset of tourists who come to drink in the history and drink a mojito. Depicted using digital art, digital enhancement, and photopainting.
